Palau Musica de Catalunya

Our last night in Barcelona, we ate at our favorite tapas bar and then went to a concert at the beautiful Catalan Music Palace. Mostly we wanted to see this building in use, but the music looked good too—old jazzy standards starring Laura Simo and Pedro Ruy-Blas. We really enjoyed this concert.

Granted, they are the go-to people for Disney to record the Castilian version of their movie songs, but one of Pedro's albums in the 70s was banned by Dictator Franco for being a little too rebellious! Rock on, Pedro.

Also, we noticed the tradition was almost like a Booth family reunion—there was all kinds of huggin' and kissin' going on. First they had to thank each member of the back-up orchestra and applaud them. Twice. Then Laura and Pedro hugged and kissed each other and then some special guest musicians. Then they brought up the Oxfam team (it was a benefit concert) and each of them hugged and kissed each of the team. The team may have hugged and kissed each other—I don't remember. It was a little chaotic on stage. Then, Laura and Pedro had to hug and kiss each other again AND the music director AND the pianist AND the special guest musicians. AND there were like two or three encores. It kept going on and on, kinda like this description. So I'll put on the photos now.

Sang it Laura! "I got it bad/And that's ain't goot."
